As Xbox head Asha Sharma reportedly visits Bethesda HQ, workers put up red flags representing laid off staff and a giant inflatable rat outside

It's probably a weird day to be working at Bethesda's Rockville headquarters. In a week's time, on August 18th, the Communications Workers of America have organised numerous rallies across the US and Canada in support of Xbox workers, 1600 of which may lose their jobs over the next year, on top of the 1600 who have already been laid off. Today, as shared by Game Developer's Chris Kerr, CWA union members have already initiated a protest outside Bethesda HQ in the form of a giant inflatable rat, and a huge number of planted red flags, each one representing a laid off worker, as Xbox CEO Asha Sharma reportedly.

A long-lost Lord of the Rings action RPG makes a surprise return to Steam

16 years ago, we used a trailer for the then-upcoming action RPG Lord of the Rings: War in the North to drop a sick burn on people who maybe take their Tolkien a little too seriously. The game launched a year later, in 2011, to middling reviews and disappointing sales, and there it sat until the delisting process began in late 2018; SteamDB indicates it got the axe on Steam the following February.

Paralives' latest update throws out its wonderfully awful homunculi babies and makes it so that dead bodies should no longer litter the streets

A positive update? Who's to say

The beauty of an early access game is being able to look at something funky, say "that's not right," and as long as you're correct and not an irritating know-it-all making feedback that's not actually helpful, see it changed in (very slow) real-time. Paralives' latest update is here, and with it comes an improvement (?) to the life sim's babies after a number of people complained at how they looked.

Kris (Hannah Einbinder) walks into the darkness of an abandoned summer camp mid-winter, in the dead of night, and turns to the camera. Her face, framed by a thick, wooly hooded coat, looks clear and crisp, but behind her, the sky is a dreamlike swirl of blues, pinks, and purples. It looks like a dream, but that's just the magic of the old-school movie effects that director Jane Schoenbrun and their team resurrected for their new movie, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.

Some anime announce themselves through spectacle, arriving with explosive animation and ideas so strange they immediately demand attention. But the best of them understand that spectacle alone is only a starting point; beneath the chaos, the most memorable series are the ones that find something deeply human to say.

We finally know why George R.R. Martin was so mad about House of the Dragon

George R.R. Martin set fans of his fantasy epic alight when he took to his blog on September 4, 2024, to post about changes he disagreed with for HBO’s adaptation of his Targaryen history book, Fire & Blood — namely the adaptation’s handling of Helaena Targaryen and her son, Maelor. The post, titled Beware the Butterflies, was deleted shortly afterward, but not before fans had saved and dissected every word of it to analyze why the cracks between GRRM and House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal had begun to show.
