Marvel's Wolverine bosses list

  2. Sentinel Prototype

Omega Red

The first boss you'll fight in Marvel's Wolverine is the iconic Omega Red. In the Marvel universe, he's essentially the KGB's answer to Captain America, and in this game, he's employed by Bolivar Trask to help him capture and kill mutants.

Wolverine encounters Omega Red during the opening sections of the game, when he, along with Sabretooth and Mystique, are tasked with infiltrating Trask's compound and rescuing the Team X leader, Nathaniel Essex. This boss fight acts as the end of the tutorial, but don't expect it to be a walk in the park.

Omega Red has two metal tentacles he'll fling at Wolverine in a variety of patterns, and he's capable of picking up nearby objects and throwing them too. Upon winning the fight, Wolverine rips his arms clean off his torso though, so he is definitely dead.

Sentinel Prototype

If you know your Marvel lore, you'll know the Sentinels are a group of robots that hunt down mutants, and in Marvel's Wolverine, the Sentinel Prototype is a colossal version, created by Trask. Wolverine encounters it with Mystique, and this is a very classic video game-style boss fight, where the foe is trapped in place because this big evil bot is still in its factory and doesn't have legs yet.

It will repeatedly fire lasers and pound the ground to inflict damage on Wolverine, while Mystique shoots at it from up on a ledge. Every time its arms come down, Wolverine can attack them to destroy the cables within, and when the boss is staggered, it falls to the ground, leaving itself open to more attacks.

The second stage of this fight heads outside, at which point Sabretooth shows up to lend a hand, and eventually, Wolverine manages to decapitate the huge robot. Trask then detonates its core, but Nathaniel Essex shows up and prevents the explosion. When the gang captures Trask, Wolverine sticks his claws through his back, killing him once and for all.

Deathstrike

Deathstrike, known as Lady Deathstrike elsewhere in the Marvel universe, is a classic X-Men villain who has always been hellbent on killing Wolverine. In this game, she's the leader of The Hand, a group of Japanese ninjas that serve a demon known only as the Beast of The Hand, and the second faction of enemies you'll encounter.

Wolverine and Jean Grey spend much of the game tracking down Walter Langkowski, aka Sasquatch, who has been kidnapped by The Hand for his scientific knowledge. The group wants to repair the Helix Engine, a device that can activate dormant X-genes in humans to create new mutants. As part of retrieving the Helix Engine, Wolverine must fight Deathstrike.

Deathstrike is a fast-attacking foe who can unleash ranged attacks with her sword, along with devastating slashes up close. When Wolverine disposes of her sword halfway through the fight, she fights exclusively with her claws in the second stage, and though she buries them in Wolverine's chest at the end of the fight, he chops her arms off. She then climbs into the Helix Engine and immediately turns to ash.

Sabretooth

Unfortunately, Wolverine must fight his old pal Sabretooth towards the end of Marvel's Wolverine. This is because Logan realizes that Nathaniel Essex is turning into a villain, but Sabretooth's hunger for blood and violence makes him blind to that, or he simply doesn't care. For Logan to stop Essex, he must first dispatch of his friend.

The first half of this fight is fairly standard, with Sabretooth attacking relentlessly, and Wolverine needing to rely on parries and dodges, then attacking as soon as a window opens. At the midway point, Sabretooth buries his claws into Wolverine's eyes, blinding him, and the player must then try and sense where he is while standing on a wooden raft. It's nothing more than a sequence of quick-time events, but it's a clever way of truly putting the player in Logan's shoes.

After getting through this section, Wolverine is kidnapped by a Sentinel, then knocked out of the sky by Sabretooth throwing a food cart. The final phase of the fight culminates in Sabretooth falling off a cliff, but not before Wolverine has one last go at convincing his old friend that Essex is evil, but to no avail. Sabretooth gets impaled on the shopping cart he flung… but that isn't the last of him.

Nathaniel Essex

Finally, the boss fight that everyone who knows Nathaniel Essex's true Marvel moniker has been waiting for. In Marvel lore, Nathaniel Essex becomes Mister Sinister with the help of Apocalypse, so his name will have raised major red flags for people at the beginning of Marvel's Wolverine. Notably though, the Mister Sinister name is never mentioned in-game.

Throughout the game, Essex's desire to simply protect mutants from Bolivar Trask turns into wanting the Helix Engine for himself, in order to use its powers to activate all the dormant X-genes in humans all over the world, killing anyone who isn't a mutant. Wolverine, for obvious reasons, wants to stop this, so when Essex's Master Mold (a bigger, more powerful Sentinel) is terrorizing Tokyo, Jean Grey and Sunfire set out to stop it while Wolverine goes toe-to-toe with his former savior.

Essex has numerous tricks up his sleeve during the fight, including the ability to summon copies of himself, fire ranged attacks, wield a sword, and block Wolverine's attacks with a forcefield parry. Master Mold joins the second half of the fight, giving Wolverine even more incoming attacks to dodge.

Once the colossal robot is down, Wolverine and Essex duke it out one more time, and it all culminates with Jean Grey realizing her true Phoenix powers. Despite this, Essex plunges a purple energy sword through Wolverine's head right before death, leading him to hear Apocalypse's voice, and potentially setting up a sequel.
