Jackie the Bald Eagle Is Being Memorialized With a Slew of Fan-Made T-Shirts

A famous bald eagle from Big Bear Valley in California named Jackie has died.

Jackie and her partner Shadow (and, later, their chicks) soared to fame during the COVID-19 pandemic as the stars of livestream nest cameras in the San Bernardino National Forest, which were managed by the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley. Today, the Ojai Raptor Center announced that a bald eagle patient believed to be Jackie died from injuries suffered during a fight with two younger eagles.

“We know this news will be deeply felt by the many thousands of people around the world who have followed her journey,” wrote the Ojai Raptor Center in a Facebook post. “Our team is heartbroken. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for her.”

Jackie’s passing made headlines across the nation, but it has also led to an immediate flood of fan-made merchandise commemorating the famous bald eagle. One T-shirt, produced by Etsy seller ArenariaDesign, reads “Jackie Forever Our Queen Shirt” above a picture of the bird surveying Big Bear Lake. As of writing, that T-shirt is in more than 20 shoppers’ carts. Another tee features Jackie flying across the text “Fly Free/Jackie 2012-2026.”
