'Don't Die Don't Die Don't Die' — Lanterns Midseason Trailer Is Packed With Tantalizing Details for Last 3 Episodes

HBO has released a midseason trailer for hit DC Universe show Lanterns, and it’s packed with tantalizing details on where the final three episodes will go.

Early on, Lanterns set up the impending death of Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan, and based on this teaser, the show will see Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart try to solve the mystery of his murder. We see Sinestro here again, no doubt stewing the pot, as well as Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner. The show really has evolved into Lanterns, plural.

There’s so much to talk about here. Stewart and Jordan have a catch-up after the dramatic events of last Sunday’s episode, which left both without the Green Lantern ring (Stewart by choice, Jordan because it was taken from him). It sounds like they will continue to be at each other’s throats during the rest of the season. Guy Gardner shows up to talk to Stewart, who is behind bars. “I can’t help you solve this murder,” Gardner tells Stewart. “It’s bad optics.” why is Stewart in jail in the first place?

We also see Sinestro saying “Hal didn’t have to die in vain… I know a way.” Is this some sort of resurrection plan? Something else? Whatever it is, I’m sure Sinestro’s plan is nefarious and very very yellow.

Through all this is the mystery of Noah Macon, born to lawyer Billy Macon and Sheridan County Sheriff's Department sheriff Kerry Kane. The last episode hinted that his conception may have been a "miracle" performed by the Manhunter. If so, does he have a bit of Manhunter in him? In the final three episodes, we’ll see him older and playing as a quarterback for his high school football team. I’m sure Noah’s fate will be tied to the end of the series in some way.

Whatever the case, fans are praising the trailer for making it feel like Lanterns is two seasons in one. The last episode really did feel like a season ender, and based on these final three episodes, we’re jumping forward significantly — and closer in time to last summer’s DCU kickstarter, Superman.

“I feel Hal isn't actually dead the way this trailer makes it out,” one fan on the Lanterns subreddit said. “I'm ready for the twists!!” “Don't die don't die don't die,” another pleaded. “This trailer focuses too much on his death. Any one else feel that? It's like they REALLY want us to believe he’s dead,” another pondered. “Or am I just coping?”
