Lucid Motors was just months away from releasing its most affordable electric vehicle yet, a crossover SUV called the Cosmos that was supposed to start under $50,000. But this week, the company pushed the release of the Cosmos back by almost a full year to the second half of 2027, part of an effort by its new CEO to avoid the quality problems that Lucid has suffered with its existing EVs.

The Global Positioning System was made publicly available to prevent civilian planes from being mistakenly shot down by any country's military after the 1983 Soviet downing of Korean Air Lines Flight 007. However, a U.S. military electronic warfare exercise likely contributed to the crash of a midnight medevac flight in May. With a crew disoriented by the loss of GPS, a Beechcraft King Air crashed into the side of a mountain in New Mexico while flying to pick up a patient. The crash killed the plane's two pilots and two nurses.

Cell-inspired synthetic fibers reveal a reversible route to self-protecting smart materials
Researchers at the University of Bayreuth, together with colleagues from Freie Universität Berlin and the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden, have developed a synthetic fiber system inspired by the cellular cytoskeleton that protects itself through controlled bundling. The findings open up new avenues for smart, switchable materials whose properties can be deliberately altered in response to a specific stimulus. The research is published in the journal Advanced Materials.
