Andrew Balding's daughter of Blue Point was second to Fallen Angel in the Sun Chariot last October - her only other previous appearance in Group One company - but has proven unstoppable since and was notching her third win of the calendar year having landed the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at the Royal meeting.

Evian Championship: Lottie Woad storms into halfway lead of major, Charley Hull also in contention but Nelly Korda misses cut

England's Lottie Woad shot a seven-under-par 64 to claim the halfway lead at the Amundi Evian Championship as she seeks her first major victory.

The 22-year-old, who has won twice on the LPGA Tour over the past year since turning professional and finished third in this event last year, moved ahead of overnight-leader Aki Iwai by one shot after the Japanese player's second-round 69.

Woad racked up eight birdies with her solitary dropped shot coming at the par-four 10th. She followed that bogey with three successive birdies and finished with a flourish with a four at the par-five 18th after just missing for eagle.

Genesis Scottish Open: Scottie Scheffler misses cut at The Renaissance Club in blow to preparations for The Open

Scottie Scheffler missed the cut at the Genesis Scottish Open, ending a 78-tournament streak where the world No 1 has made it through to the weekend.

Scheffler started day two three shots off the pace as part of a congested leaderboard topped by a five-man leading group including Rory McIlroy.

But the 30-year-old American lost ground with a second-round, two-over 72 that left him level par overall, nine shots off the summit and, crucially, a stroke shy of the projected cut line which was one under at the time, although that subsequently moved to two under.

No action will be taken by the International Cricket Council (ICC) over Ben Stokes' retirement video.

Stokes' farewell address to the England dressing room, in which he announced his retirement during the fourth day's play of last month's final Test against New Zealand, is understood to have attracted the attention of the world governing body.

The video was released on England's social media channels and later broadcast on TV but, under the ICC's anti-corruption minimum standards, there are restrictions on filming inside dressing rooms without prior approval.

On the day which saw Sophie Ecclestone become England Women's leading wicket-taker across all formats, there was another standout spinner on day one of the women's Test at Lord's - one who was making her debut.

Mikel Merino: Arsenal midfielder proving Spain's World Cup hero after overcoming injury that left him in mobility scooter

Mikel Merino might have hoped to appear earlier than the 85th minute against Belgium following his match-winning impact from the bench against Portugal. Instead, he had to wait until the 86th. No matter. Another late cameo, another decisive goal.

He is the first player in the history of the World Cup to score winning goals in separate knockout ties as a substitute but that doesn't really cover it. Merino was only given nine minutes plus stoppage time across the two games. It was all he needed.

However, both players took part in training in Miami on Friday, ahead of Saturday's showdown with Norway in the city.

Oregon D.A. Drops Motion to Delay Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger

The Oregon attorney general’s office has withdrawn its motion to delay the closing of the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger, according to a filing submitted Friday in the Multnomah County Circuit Court in Portland, Ore.

The deal could close as soon as July 22, though several states, including Oregon and California, are investigating whether the $111 billion transaction violates their antitrust laws. The states could still seek an injunction to block the merger before that date.
